Ecowaste Industries Ltd Purchases Urban Wood Waste and Smithers Enterprises

Categories:

Ecowaste Industries Ltd. (Ecowaste) is pleased to announce the acquisition of the operating assets of Urban Wood Recycling (Urban) and Smithers Enterprises (Smithers) facilities.  The transaction was approved by both parties on November 21, 2018 and the sale will close on December 31, 2018.

In the coming weeks Urban and Smithers will continue to operate these two facilities in New Westminster and South Vancouver.  They plan to accept customers until December 27 2018, at which time they expect to close both sites to inbound materials to facilitate their shutdown and clean-up process.  After that date Ecowaste will accept Urban and Smithers customers at the Ecowaste Landfill.  Between now and the second week in December Ecowaste will be in touch with existing Urban and Smither’s customers and service providers to discuss the particulars of the transition.

In January of 2019, Ecowaste will start the redevelopment of the New Westminster operation into a C&D transfer station.  Ecowaste expects to reopen the New Westminster Transfer Station in the second quarter of 2019 after the conversion is complete.  The combination of a transfer operation in New Westminster, with additional C&D processing capacity at our Richmond site, will better serve the recycling needs of the construction and demolition sector.

Concurrent with this transaction, Ecowaste has completed the design of a fully automated materials recovery facility (MRF) that will process the majority of the C&D materials received at our sites.  The first phase of the MRF will be operational for processing wood only in Q3 of 2019.  The plan is to have the MRF fully operational by Q4 of 2020.

Ecowaste looks forward to building our C&D recycling capacity and, coupled with our already high standards for management of C&D refuse, hope to raise the bar to a new level in our recycling capabilities over the coming year.
